The Vitaphone Soundtrack Project
The Vitaphone Soundtrack Project seeks to preserve, digitize, restore and make freely available online the surviving soundtracks from the earliest years of talking pictures (1926–1931), especially from films that are otherwise lost.
By preserving Vitaphone discs and surviving soundtrack recordings, we work to reunite sound with surviving film elements whenever possible and make these restorations freely available for everyone to enjoy.
Help Save Lost Soundtracks
Please help out with our project by donating Vitaphone discs and other similar Vitaphone type feature film soundtracks (1926–1931). These discs are 16 inches in diameter and also 12 inches in diameter and are usually made of heavy shellac although later editions were often made of an early type of heavy plastic known as Victrolac. We also purchase Vitaphone discs and collections.
We can provide safe packing materials for fragile shellac Vitaphone discs. Donors will receive on screen restoration credit and digital copies of completed restoration.
